2025 EUROPEAN DARTS GRAND PRIX

When and Where is the European Darts Grand Prix?

The 2025 European Darts Grand Prix will be held at The Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, Germany. The tournament will take place from May 2nd to May 4th. It's the sixth of 14 European Tour events this season, part of the journey to the European Championship.

The event has been played 10 times since 2014, making it one of the most established tournaments on the Euro Tour. Nine of those editions have been held at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, just outside Stuttgart. Even in 2022, when it had to move due to COVID cancellations, the tournament stayed close by.

2025 European Darts Grand Prix

The Glaspalast is a well-known venue for darts. Besides hosting the European Darts Grand Prix, it also hosted the German Darts Masters and the European Darts Masters back in 2012 and 2013.

This year will mark the 14th PDC event held there, more than any other venue in Germany. The arena holds about 3,000 fans, creating an electric atmosphere. Players are competing for a prize pool of £175,000, with the winner taking home £30,000.

Who Has Qualified for the European Darts Grand Prix?

This year, a new format is in place. The top 16 players from both the main PDC Order of Merit and the Pro Tour Order of Merit are involved:

  • Main Order of Merit: These players are seeded and automatically start in round two

  • Pro Tour Order of Merit: These players have to face one of 16 qualifiers in round one

Several players have secured their spots through the Tour Card Holder Qualifier:

  • Leon Weber will make his Euro Tour debut.

  • Max Hopp and Gabriel Clemens, two well-known German players, are also in

  • Bradley Brooks will also make his first Euro Tour appearance this season

From the Home Nation Qualifier:

  • Michael Unterbuchner, Marcel Erba, Paul Krohne, and Daniel Klose made it through

  • Unterbuchner, Krohne, and Klose impressed with strong averages

  • Erba qualified despite some shaky performances but will still make his debut

Other qualifiers:

  • Benjamin Pratnemer won the East Europe qualifier

  • Johan Engstrom won the Nordic and Baltic qualifier for the second time this year

Additionally, there are four reserves ready to step in if players withdraw:

  • Martin Lukeman, William O'Connor, Ian White (a former EDGP winner), Robert Owen

  • Withdrawals are common, so it’s likely some reserves will get a chance to play

Tips for Betting on the European Darts Grand Prix

One big story is that young World Champion Luke Littler has said he won’t be playing in Germany again until October’s European Championships. So, it’s likely he will pull out of this event. With Littler and possibly others withdrawing, the tournament will be wide open.

Players to consider backing:

  • Luke Humphries: If he plays, he’ll be the favourite. He's currently World Number One

  • Gian van Veen: Coming off a great performance at the German Darts Grand Prix

  • Martin Schindler: A strong German player looking for his first Euro Tour title this year

  • Chris Dobey: Recently won a Premier League night and is hunting his first ET title

One fun fact: despite being played for over a decade, no one has ever hit a nine-darter (a perfect leg) at the European Darts Grand Prix. Could this year be the year?!

Past European Grand Prix Winners and Finalists

Over its 10-year history, nine different players have won the European Darts Grand Prix. Only one player, Michael van Gerwen, has won it twice (2016 and 2018). Van Gerwen was dominant between 2016 and 2020, reaching four finals in five years.

Similarly, Peter Wright made the final four times between 2015 and 2019. Wright lost the finals in 2015 and 2016 but bounced back to win in 2017, crushing Van Gerwen 6-0.

Four of the Most Memorable Finals:

  • Mervyn King beating Michael Smith 6-5 in 2014 for his only Euro Tour title

  • Kim Huybrechts edging out Peter Wright 6-5 in 2015

  • Ian White winning a thrilling 8-7 final over Wright in 2019

  • Jose de Sousa becoming the first Portuguese player to win a Euro Tour title in 2020 by beating Van Gerwen

Rob Cross: Form in Recent Years

  • He lost a dramatic 8-7 final to Luke Humphries in 2022

  • He got his revenge in 2023, winning 8-6

Last year, Gary Anderson beat Ross Smith 8-6. It was Anderson’s first Euro Tour title in 10 years, having skipped many events due to travel concerns.
